Being a native Californian, I have lived and roamed the 48th my entire life...
Huntington Beach, let's address the elephant in the room right off the bat. Yes, I am from Riverside and during my formative years I was absolutely one of the 909ers you had to tolerate with regularity in the summer. That being said, no, I have never - in my life - worn denim in the ocean. I'm glad we got that out of the way.
In all seriousness I did grow up with Huntington Beach as a second home throughout high school. We escaped the 909 heat whenever football and baseball practice would allow. Since then, I have grown to appreciate Huntington's role, not just in California, but around the world. The influence of Huntington's music, fashion, surf culture, commerce and tourism are world-renowned. I grew up on a steady diet of OC punk rock music that had deep roots in Huntington Beach, CA. It is that spirit of influence that we want to take to Washington D.C.
It's time to lead, California - We Have Things To Do.
